Spurs boss confirms £65m surgery blow ahead of Leeds clash……
Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major setback as manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that £65 million summer signing, Micky van de Ven, has undergone surgery and will be sidelined for the coming weeks. The timing is especially cruel for Spurs, who are preparing for a crucial clash with Leeds United this weekend.
The Dutch defender, who arrived from Wolfsburg in one of Spurs’ biggest deals of the transfer window, has quickly established himself as a cornerstone in Postecoglou’s backline. His pace, composure, and ability to build from the back have been vital to Tottenham’s early-season form. However, a persistent injury problem has now forced medical intervention, ruling him out until at least the international break.
Speaking ahead of the Leeds fixture, Postecoglou expressed both disappointment and confidence in his squad’s ability to cope.
“It’s obviously a big blow for us and for Micky,” he said. “He’s been fantastic since he came in, but surgery was the best option for his recovery. We’ll support him fully, and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger. For now, it gives others an opportunity to step up.”
Spurs are already stretched at the back, with Cristian Romero battling for full fitness and Ben Davies also managing knocks. Postecoglou hinted that academy talents may be called upon to provide cover in the coming weeks.
For Leeds, who have found form under Daniel Farke, the news provides a glimmer of encouragement as they look to exploit Tottenham’s defensive reshuffle. Nevertheless, Spurs will hope their attacking firepower, led by captain Son Heung-min and James Maddison, can offset the defensive disruption.
Van de Ven’s absence is a test of Tottenham’s resilience and squad depth as they aim to keep pace in the top four race.
