Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Anderlecht winger, who replaces Simon Adingra at the Stadium of Light,

Sunderland have reached an agreement to sign Ecuadorian winger Nilson Angulo from Anderlecht, with the 22-year-old set to take the place of Simon Adingra at the Stadium of Light, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Black Cats sanctioned Adingra’s loan move to AS Monaco on January deadline day after the Ivorian struggled to make an impact under head coach Régis Le Bris. Adingra arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer for £20.5m following Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League, but he managed just nine league starts and produced limited returns.
Angulo is expected to provide fresh attacking options out wide as Le Bris looks to build on an encouraging first half of the season back in the top flight. Sunderland have exceeded expectations so far, recording eight wins and six defeats from 24 league matches.
Confirming the deal on X, Romano wrote:
“Nilson Angulo to Sunderland, here we go! Deal agreed now with Anderlecht. Surprise move agreed by Sunderland and medical ongoing now. 22-year-old Ecuadorian winger joins to replace Simon Adingra on his way to AS Monaco.”
Sky Sports reports that the transfer is worth £15m. Angulo has caught the eye in the Belgian Pro League this season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. Known for his pace, dribbling ability and direct style, he regularly takes on defenders and creates chances.
His performances at club level have also earned him 12 international caps for Ecuador, and he is expected to be part of the national squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Sunderland will be hoping Angulo delivers more consistency than Adingra, who recorded just one goal and one assist in 14 league appearances following his high-profile move in July 2025.
The Ecuadorian winger is likely to be Sunderland’s only deadline-day arrival, a sharp contrast to last summer’s busy transfer window. However, the current squad has performed strongly, with players such as Omar Alderete, Granit Xhaka and Nordi Mukiele playing important roles this season.
