NBA Trade Buzz Connects Knicks With Three Compelling Targets
The New York Knicks have quickly shifted from being viewed as one of the NBA’s most reliable contenders to one of the league’s biggest uncertainties. After a strong start to the season, their form has dipped noticeably since the beginning of 2026, with inconsistent performances raising questions about the team’s direction. As a result, New York has become a frequent topic in trade-deadline conversations across the league.
NBA insider Chris Haynes added fuel to the speculation on Tuesday night, reporting that the Knicks have been linked to several potential targets ahead of the February trade deadline. Haynes also suggested there is roughly a 45 percent chance that New York will make some kind of roster move before the deadline arrives.
Players on the Knicks’ Radar
One of the most notable names to surface in recent rumors is Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks have discussed the possibility of making a move for the experienced veteran. While Portland is not expected to seriously contend for a playoff spot this season, Holiday remains highly respected as one of the league’s best two-way guards. His defensive presence, leadership, and playoff experience could provide an immediate boost to a Knicks team searching for stability.
However, if Holiday’s price tag proves too high, New York may pivot toward more affordable alternatives. Two such options reportedly under consideration are Jose Alvarado and Keon Ellis.
Ellis, a wing with the Sacramento Kings, is currently on a team-friendly expiring contract, making him an appealing trade target. That said, the Knicks are not alone in their interest, as teams like the Los Angeles Lakers have also been linked to him. Since entering the league in 2022, Ellis has appeared in nearly 200 NBA games and carved out a consistent rotation role last season. He averaged 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting an impressive 43 percent from beyond the arc. Although his production has dipped this season, Ellis still offers upside, currently averaging 5.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.
Alvarado is another name drawing attention due to his energy and defensive impact. Despite being undersized, he consistently disrupts opposing offenses, averaging one steal per game. Offensively, he has provided solid bench scoring, contributing 7.9 points per outing while shooting 36 percent from three-point range on 4.4 attempts per game. His hustle and two-way skill set could fit well with the Knicks’ system.
While New York is often linked to blockbuster trade scenarios—most notably rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo—such a move appears highly unlikely before the deadline. Instead, more realistic targets like Holiday, Ellis, and Alvarado are emerging as names worth closely watching as the Knicks weigh their options for strengthening the roster.
