Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Toti Gomes has opened up emotionally about the growing disconnect between the team and its supporters, admitting the players have not given fans enough reasons to cheer this season.
In an honest and somber reflection, Gomes described the situation as a painful “exchange of love for disappointment,” acknowledging that the bond between the stands and the pitch has been strained by poor performances. Wolves fans are known for their loyalty and passion, but recent displays have tested that patience.
“We feel it,” Gomes admitted. “The support is still there, but so is the frustration. And we understand why. We haven’t given them enough to applaud.”
The defender stressed that the issue isn’t a lack of commitment, but a failure to turn effort into results. Missed opportunities, defensive lapses, and inconsistent performances have left Wolves struggling to find rhythm, and Gomes believes the squad must take full responsibility.
Still, the captain made it clear that feeling sorry for themselves is not an option. Inside the dressing room, he says the message is simple: respond with action.
“The fans deserve better, no excuses,” he said. “They show up every week believing in us. Now it’s on us to give them performances that rebuild that belief.”
For Gomes and Wolves, the mission now is redemption.
