A player from Wolverhampton Wanderers has openly questioned the club’s January transfer dealings, admitting the squad was left “quite weakened” after a series of exits during the winter window.
Defender Santiago Bueno did not hold back when reflecting on the impact of Wolves’ transfer activity, suggesting the balance of the squad suffered as several key players departed without adequate replacements.
Speaking in a recent interview, Bueno explained that the window proved difficult for the group, stating that the team lost important options and depth at a crucial stage of the season.
Wolves sanctioned multiple departures in January, including forwards and key squad members, while only a limited number of arrivals were brought in. Among the incomings were Adam Armstrong and Angel Gomes, the latter joining on loan late in the window.
However, Bueno suggested that those additions were not enough to offset the losses, saying the team did not fully replace what had been taken away.
Despite his concerns, the defender was keen to stress that unity remains strong within the dressing room. He highlighted that the players are still fully committed to fighting for results, even as the club faces a difficult situation in the league.
Wolves currently find themselves struggling near the bottom of the table, with relegation to the Championship becoming an increasing possibility.
The club’s January strategy is understood to have been influenced by longer-term planning, with a potential rebuild already in mind. However, the immediate impact appears to have left the squad short on depth and experience during a critical phase of the campaign.
With only a handful of matches remaining, Wolves now face a tough battle to preserve their Premier League status—one that will test both their resilience and the decisions made in the transfer market.
