WOW!! Surprising As Rob Pelinka doesn’t expect any ‘big changes’ under new owner Mark Walter.
What Next for the Big Rob Pelinka Under New Owner??
The Lakers are a well-established brand and one of the oldest teams in the NBA. The history is rich, and if you look around during a home game, you’ll see plenty of former players and coaches in new roles, remaining a part of the Lakers family.
This summer, the Lakers initiated a significant change when the Buss family sold their majority ownership stake at a $10 billion valuation to Mark Walter.
With a new ownership group, this will certainly be a new era of Lakers basketball. What isn’t known is how that will change things.
The deal is still being finalized, and observing how things will change in both big and small ways will take time. However, Lakers President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka doesn’t see a new boss as a big change to his current job.
“Mark’s an incredibly exciting leader,” Pelinka said on media day. “As you said, the transaction’s still in process. But one thing that’s clear about Mark is he has a strong level of belief in the operations of this place, led by Jeanie Buss. Part of our future will continue to be led by her with the day-to-day operations. But Mark is just an incredible resource and visionary and I don’t see there being big changes.”
Lakers fans might raise an eyebrow about a new owner spending a fortune to change nothing, but it’s not just Pelinka’s words on media day that align with this theory.
Jeanie Buss is expected to remain governor, and Joey and Jesse Buss are also expected to stay with the franchise. With Pelinka still making long-term decisions like extending head coach JJ Redick this summer, change so far has meant business as usual.
