Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho has outlined his plans for the upcoming January transfer window, confirming that the club already has a clear target for the number of reinforcements needed to strengthen the squad for the second half of the League One campaign.

Speaking ahead of Pompey’s next fixture, Mousinho admitted that depth in key areas has been tested in recent weeks due to injuries and fixture congestion. As a result, he confirmed the club is aiming to bring in two to three new signings in January — a mix of permanent deals and strategic loan additions. According to Mousinho, these reinforcements will be focused on positions where Portsmouth have been stretched the most, including central midfield and attacking options.

Despite competition from other League One sides, Mousinho expressed confidence that Portsmouth will secure their targets, revealing that early planning has given the club a strong head start. He noted that the recruitment department has been actively working behind the scenes with an updated shortlist, making initial contact with parent clubs and agents well before the window opens.

Mousinho also emphasised that Pompey’s current league position and ambitions make the club an attractive destination for players seeking competitive football and a potential promotion push. He added that the board has shown full support for his recruitment vision, providing assurance that resources will be available to complete the necessary business.

While acknowledging that the January window can be unpredictable, Mousinho insisted that Portsmouth are better prepared than in previous years. He believes that bringing in the right additions will give the squad the crucial boost needed to maintain consistency and stay firmly in the promotion race as the season enters its decisive months.

With preparations underway, Pompey fans can expect a proactive and purposeful approach once the transfer window officially opens.
