Plymouth Argyle deadline-day transfer update as two players undergo medicals
Plymouth Argyle are actively working on two separate transfer deals as the January transfer window enters its final hours, with medical examinations scheduled to take place today. The Pilgrims are pushing to strengthen their squad before the deadline, focusing on adding reinforcements in defence and midfield.
Head coach Tom Cleverley confirmed following Argyle’s 2–1 League One defeat away at promotion contenders Stockport County on Saturday that the club had made progress on bringing in both a centre-back and a midfielder. His comments indicated that negotiations were already well advanced, and developments have continued rapidly since then.
As things currently stand, one of the deals involves defender Wes Harding, who is expected to arrive on loan from Millwall. Alongside Harding, Argyle are also close to completing the signing of a central midfielder, although the player’s identity has not yet been disclosed. Both incoming players are set to complete medicals today, putting the club in a strong position to finalise the transfers before the window closes.
Should both signings be completed successfully, Plymouth Argyle may need to adjust their squad to comply with EFL registration rules. The club reportedly has only one available squad space remaining, meaning an outgoing loan move could be required. Midfielder Ayman Benarous is among the players who could potentially be loaned out to create room for the new arrivals.
With the clock ticking on deadline day, Argyle supporters will be watching closely as the club looks to wrap up its business and bolster the squad for the remainder of the season.
