Everton have confirmed that Idrissa Gana Gueye has left the club after the midfielder’s contract expired, bringing an end to his second spell at Goodison Park.
The experienced Senegal international became a popular figure among Everton supporters during his two spells with the club. Gueye first joined Everton in 2016 before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. He returned to Merseyside in 2022 and remained an important presence in midfield.
Everton confirmed that the club would not extend his contract after discussions over a new deal failed to produce an agreement. Manager David Moyes paid tribute to Gueye, describing him as an exceptional player and recognising his contribution to the team.
The 36-year-old now faces a new chapter in his career, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Diriyah reportedly interested in signing him. Reports indicate that a move could give Gueye an opportunity to continue playing at the highest level while entering the final stages of his career.
For Everton, his departure leaves a significant gap in experience and defensive strength in midfield. Gueye’s tackling, positioning and ability to break up opposition attacks made him a valuable player during some of the club’s most challenging seasons.
