Stoke City’s long-term injury list is beginning to show signs of progress, with several players reaching important milestones in their recoveries, even though head coach Mark Robins is still reluctant to put firm dates on their returns.
Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson and striker Robert Bozenik have both returned to running as they continue their rehabilitation from shoulder injuries. Elsewhere, Junior Tchamadeu is edging closer to fitness, Lewis Baker is battling through a challenging phase following ankle surgery, and Divin Mubama has been back at the bet365 Stadium as he recovers from ankle ligament damage. Million Manhoef, who missed last weekend’s defeat to Southampton, could be available again for the upcoming trip to West Bromwich Albion, while recent signing Ato Ampah is not expected to be sidelined for long with a toe problem.
Speaking about the situation, Robins admitted the uncertainty around recovery times. He explained that while the players are making progress, their injuries were serious and it is difficult to predict exactly when they will be ready. He highlighted the positive signs from Johansson and Bozenik, noting that both have removed their slings and protective supports and are moving freely on the training pitch. However, he acknowledged that Johansson’s role as a goalkeeper means his return may take longer due to the demands placed on his shoulders, while Bozenik is likely to be back sooner.
Robins added that Tchamadeu is pushing hard in his recovery and is not far away from returning, though not quite ready yet, while Baker is having to work through ongoing pain as part of his rehabilitation.
Loan striker Mubama initially received treatment at parent club Manchester City but was back at Stoke recently and watched the Southampton match from the stands. Robins said the forward will continue to split his rehabilitation between the two clubs and is looking in good condition. He also suggested that, although losing Mubama is frustrating, the enforced break could prove beneficial, allowing him to return refreshed and ready to make an impact once fit.
