“I Left My Heart at Valley Parade” – Departing Bantams Star Admits Emotional Farewell
A former Bradford City defender has spoken candidly about his January departure, admitting that leaving Valley Parade was an emotional decision that still weighs heavily on him.
The 24-year-old completed a permanent move to Crawley Town F.C. during the recent transfer window, bringing his spell at Bradford City A.F.C. to an end.
In a heartfelt message following confirmation of the transfer, Richards made it clear that his connection to the Bantams remains strong.
> “I left my heart at Valley Parade,” Richards said. “This club means a lot to me. From the moment I arrived, the fans and staff made me feel at home. Leaving was not an easy decision.”
Richards joined Bradford City in 2023 and primarily featured as a left-back, while also demonstrating his ability to operate further forward when required. Although injuries disrupted parts of his time in West Yorkshire, he consistently showed professionalism and commitment whenever selected.
The move to Crawley Town is understood to have been motivated by the opportunity for more regular first-team football. With competition for places increasing at Valley Parade, the transfer provided Richards with a fresh opportunity to regain momentum in his career.
Bradford City officials thanked the defender for his dedication and professionalism, wishing him every success for the future. Supporters have also responded warmly, many expressing appreciation for his honesty and efforts during his time at the club.
Despite beginning a new chapter, Richards insists his affection for the Bantams will endure.
> “Bradford will always be special to me,” he added. “No matter where my career takes me, I’ll always be grateful for my time there.”
As Bradford City continue their campaign, attention now turns to strengthening the squad. However, Richards’ emotional farewell ensures that his connection with Valley Parade remains firmly intact.
