Former Rotherham United favourite Chiedozie Ogbene has spoken warmly about his time at Rotherham United FC, describing his 2023 departure as “emotional” and insisting his bond with the Millers remains strong.

Ogbene left Rotherham in the summer of 2023 following the expiration of his contract, subsequently joining Luton Town FC after their promotion to the Premier League. His exit brought an end to a five-year spell in South Yorkshire that saw him evolve into one of the club’s most influential players in recent history.

A Standout Spell in South Yorkshire

Signed in 2018, Ogbene steadily developed into a key attacking figure. He played an instrumental role in Rotherham’s 2021/22 League One promotion-winning campaign, contributing goals, assists and relentless energy during a crucial period for the club.

He carried that momentum into the Championship, where his pace and direct running made him one of Rotherham’s primary attacking threats. Across all competitions, he made over 150 appearances for the Millers, earning widespread recognition for his consistency and work ethic.

During his time at the New York Stadium, Ogbene also became a regular international for the Republic of Ireland — a milestone that reflected both his personal progress and Rotherham’s role in his development.

“Rotherham Gave Me So Much”

Reflecting on his departure, Ogbene acknowledged the emotional weight of leaving a club where he felt valued.

> “Rotherham gave me the platform to grow as a player and as a person,” he said.

“The fans were brilliant with me, especially during tough times. Once you’ve experienced that support at the New York Stadium, it stays with you. Once a Miller, always a Miller.”

His connection with supporters was evident throughout his tenure, often applauding the travelling faithful and speaking positively about the club in interviews.

Future Reunion Not Ruled Out

While currently focused on his career progression, Ogbene did not dismiss the idea of one day returning.

> “Football can take you anywhere, but you never forget the places that shaped you. If the opportunity ever felt right in the future, I’d always be open to it.”

With Rotherham continuing to rebuild and aim for stability within the EFL, the possibility of a future reunion would undoubtedly capture the imagination of supporters who still hold him in high regard.

For now, Ogbene’s chapter with the Millers remains a successful one — defined by promotion glory, Championship resilience, and a lasting bond with the New York Stadium faithful.
