Contract Situation of Alex DeBrincat Creates Uncertainty for the Detroit Red Wings.

The New York Rangers have become one of the most closely watched teams as the NHL trade deadline approaches. With the organization currently focused on retooling its roster and planning for the future, many around the league expect the Rangers to be among the most active sellers in the coming hours.

The front office has already started reshaping the roster. Just last night, the Rangers dealt forward Sam Carrick to the Buffalo Sabres. That transaction came after earlier moves this season that saw star winger Artemi Panarin sent to the Los Angeles Kings, while defenseman Carson Soucy was moved to the New York Islanders. Despite these trades, league insiders believe the Rangers are far from finished and could still make additional moves before the deadline passes.

Over the past several weeks, multiple players from the Rangers roster have surfaced in trade speculation. Young forward Alexis Lafrenière, defenseman Braden Schneider, and former first-round prospect Brennan Othmann have all reportedly drawn interest from other teams. However, the most notable name involved in trade chatter has been veteran center Vincent Trocheck, whose strong two-way play and experience make him one of the most valuable players potentially available on the market.

Trade rumors surrounding Trocheck intensified after Rangers general manager Chris Drury publicly acknowledged in a letter to fans that the organization is entering a retooling phase. Many analysts believed that the veteran center could be moved for a substantial return as part of that strategy. However, a new report suggests that a Trocheck trade is far from guaranteed.

Rangers Willing to Keep Trocheck if Price Isn’t Met

According to respected NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Rangers have quietly informed teams around the league that they are prepared to keep Trocheck if their asking price is not satisfied.

Friedman reported on social media that New York has made it clear they will not rush into a deal simply for the sake of completing one. If rival teams fail to meet the organization’s expectations for a return, the Rangers are fully prepared to hold onto the veteran center beyond the deadline.

This stance highlights the team’s willingness to remain patient and avoid undervaluing one of their most important assets. The update is particularly intriguing given that Trocheck was recently scratched from the lineup for roster-related reasons, a move that fueled speculation about a potential trade.

While the possibility of a deal still exists, it is evident that the Rangers are determined to secure a significant return before agreeing to move the experienced forward. Trocheck remains one of the top centers potentially available on the market and is still under contract for several more seasons as part of a seven-year, $39.375 million deal. Because of that long-term commitment, New York could also choose to revisit trade discussions during the offseason if the right opportunity does not emerge now.

Strong Market Expected for Trocheck

Given his reputation as a reliable top-six center who contributes both offensively and defensively, Trocheck is expected to attract significant interest from teams looking to strengthen their roster for a playoff push.

Among the organizations that have been linked to him is the Minnesota Wild, who reportedly view the veteran as a potential fit in their lineup. Other clubs that could plausibly enter the race include the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and even the Buffalo Sabres.

With several contenders potentially searching for an experienced center, Trocheck’s market value could rise quickly if multiple teams decide to pursue him.

For now, the situation remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear: the Rangers are not in a hurry. As the trade deadline unfolds, the Blueshirts appear ready to remain patient while they evaluate offers and wait for the best possible deal for one of their most valuable players.
