Former Jan Bednarek and his family were reportedly held at knifepoint during a robbery at their home in Portugal earlier this week.
According to reports from Portugal, an armed intruder confronted the Poland defender after he arrived home with his wife and daughter on Friday evening. The incident allegedly took place around 9:30pm in Porto, where the 30-year-old currently plays following his exit from Southampton F.C. last summer.
Local outlets say jewellery valued at approximately €150,000 (£130,000) was taken before the suspect escaped. Thankfully, Bednarek and his family were not physically harmed.
Earlier that same day, Bednarek’s wife, Julia, had posted videos on social media showing the pair visiting a modern art gallery.
Portugal’s PSP police reportedly attended the scene before the case was transferred to the Policia Judiciaria for further investigation. Neither Bednarek nor his wife has publicly addressed the incident.
Bednarek spent eight years with Southampton after joining from Lech Poznań in a £5million transfer in 2017, going on to make more than 250 appearances for the club.
He also played an important part in Southampton’s Championship play-off promotion in 2024 after returning from a loan spell at Aston Villa F.C..
The Polish international moved to FC Porto in July last year and has since helped the club claim its 31st league title.
On the international stage, Bednarek has represented Poland at both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, as well as two European Championships.
