Derby County have reportedly shown interest in signing Conor Chaplin on a free transfer after his emotional departure from Ipswich Town.
Chaplin became a free agent after leaving Ipswich at the end of his contract, following a loan spell with Portsmouth during the 2025/26 season. His exit brought an end to a memorable five-year spell at Portman Road, where he helped the club secure back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
According to Football League World, Derby are among the clubs monitoring the attacker ahead of next season.
The forward was an influential figure during Ipswich’s rise through the divisions and remained involved throughout their Premier League campaign. While on loan at Portsmouth last season, he made 36 appearances in the Championship and scored twice as Pompey successfully avoided relegation.
After Ipswich confirmed he would not be offered a new contract, Chaplin shared a heartfelt farewell message with supporters. He described his time at the club as the “best period” of his life, highlighting the promotions, Premier League football, and the strong bond he built with the fans and community.
He also thanked manager Kieran McKenna, club staff, teammates and supporters for their role in the club’s recent success, while revealing that his family created lifelong memories during their time in Ipswich.
Chaplin added that although he is leaving the club, he will continue supporting Ipswich wherever his career takes him next.
