The former striker, who recently stepped down from his position at Ferencvárosi TC, has been linked with the vacant managerial role at Celtic FC. However, his previous spell in charge of Maccabi Tel Aviv during the 2023–24 season has triggered criticism among sections of the Celtic support due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In a joint online statement titled “OUR CLUB, OUR VALUES”, the supporters’ groups said they strongly reject the idea of Keane taking charge at Celtic.
They stressed that Celtic fans have a long-standing tradition of showing solidarity with the Palestinian people and argued that Keane’s decision to manage an Israeli club during the conflict was something they could not overlook.
The statement described his choice to work in Israel at such a sensitive time as “unacceptable” and linked the issue to Celtic’s historical roots, pointing out that the club was founded by a community shaped by famine, displacement and hardship.
Supporters also warned that appointing Keane could create further division among the fanbase, branding the move as both predictable and lacking ambition.
The statement ended with a direct appeal to the club’s hierarchy to rethink the decision, finishing with the message: “NO TO KEANE.”
