Celtic dealt fresh transfer blow as striker target ‘closes in on move to Ajax’ – 10 months after Kasper Dolberg saga

Supporters of Celtic F.C. have been dealt another frustrating setback in the transfer market after reports emerged that one of the club’s striker targets is now closing in on a move to AFC Ajax — reviving memories of the failed pursuit of Kasper Dolberg nearly a year ago.

The Scottish champions are understood to have been monitoring several attacking options ahead of the summer window as they look to strengthen their frontline for another domestic title push and a return to European competition. However, negotiations for their latest target appear to have stalled in recent days, with Ajax now believed to be leading the race for the forward’s signature.

Sources close to the situation suggest the Dutch giants have accelerated talks and are confident of finalising an agreement soon, leaving Celtic at risk of missing out once again on a player they had tracked extensively.

The development has sparked frustration among sections of the Celtic support, many of whom still remember the club’s lengthy pursuit of Dolberg last summer. The Danish striker was heavily linked with a move to Parkhead before eventually opting against the transfer, with negotiations failing to progress despite weeks of speculation.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly stressed the importance of adding quality and depth to his attacking options this summer, especially with the demands of competing on multiple fronts next season.

While the club are expected to continue exploring alternative targets, the latest setback highlights the growing competition Celtic face in the European transfer market, particularly when rival clubs from bigger leagues enter negotiations.

Despite the disappointment, recruitment staff at Parkhead are believed to remain active behind the scenes, with several other names still under consideration as the Hoops aim to complete new signings before pre-season preparations begin.
