Portsmouth have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of reported target Mate Tuboly as they press ahead with their summer recruitment plans.
The Blues are believed to have lodged a £1.3 million offer for the DAC Dunajská Streda midfielder, while Swansea City and Watford are also said to be keeping tabs on the highly regarded Hungarian prospect. Reports indicate Portsmouth were the first club to make a formal approach for the 21-year-old after he impressed in Slovakia’s top flight last season.
Tuboly was instrumental in DAC’s run to a second-place finish last term, scoring three times and setting up two more in 35 appearances in all competitions. His form was rewarded with a contract extension through to 2028, a clear sign of the club’s confidence in his future.
When Tuboly arrived in 2024, DAC executive director Jan Van Daele hailed him as a flexible midfielder who could play as either a holding player or a box-to-box No. 8. He also pointed to the youngster’s maturity and experience, despite his age, noting that he had already built up several years of senior football.
The Hungary Under-21 captain has now racked up 63 appearances for DAC and remains a key part of the squad. He is currently in pre-season training and recently took part in a friendly against Šamorín.
Portsmouth are anticipated to add to their midfield this summer. Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux can both fill deeper positions, but Pack’s minutes may need to be managed more carefully next season. Ebou Adams is also set for a bigger role after Andre Dozzell’s exit.
Elsewhere, Hungarian midfielder Mark Kosznovszky is still recovering from the serious knee injury he sustained in December 2025 and is not expected back until later in the year.
With Pompey reportedly having bid £1.3m, Tuboly is now gearing up for DAC’s new Nike Liga season.
The defensive midfielder has stepped up his pre-season work and has featured in both of the club’s warm-up matches so far.
His latest appearance was a 45-minute run-out in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Slovak second-tier outfit Samorin.
