Seattle Seahawks Set for Record $9.612 Billion Sale as Khosla Family Agrees to Buy Super Bowl Champions
The Seattle Seahawks are on the verge of entering a new era after reaching an agreement to be sold to the Khosla family in a landmark deal valued at $9.612 billion, making it one of the most significant franchise sales in professional sports history.
The agreement follows the long-standing wishes of the late Paul Allen, the Microsoft co-founder and former Seahawks owner, whose estate initiated the sale process earlier this year. While the transaction has been agreed upon in principle, it still requires formal approval from NFL owners before it can be finalized.
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, who spoke anonymously because the deal has not yet received league approval, the Khosla family will acquire controlling ownership of the defending Super Bowl champions. The Seahawks also confirmed the agreement through an official social media announcement.
Leading the ownership group is billionaire entrepreneur and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, who expressed gratitude and excitement about taking charge of one of the NFL’s premier franchises.
“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” Khosla said in a statement. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”
The sale process officially began on February 18 after Allen’s estate announced its intention to sell the franchise. Financial advisory firm Allen & Company LLC, alongside legal firm Latham & Watkins, managed the transaction, which was expected to extend throughout the NFL offseason.
As part of the league’s ownership rules, the Khosla family will be required to divest its existing ownership interest in the San Francisco 49ers before assuming control of the Seahawks.
The proposed purchase is expected to be presented to NFL owners during their scheduled meeting in August, where a vote to ratify the agreement is anticipated.
The Seahawks have remained under the Allen family’s ownership since 1997, when Paul Allen purchased the franchise from Ken Behring for $194 million. Allen played a pivotal role in ensuring the team remained in Seattle, preserving its place in the city and helping transform it into one of the NFL’s most successful organizations.
With the franchise fresh off its second Super Bowl title, the impending ownership change signals the beginning of a new chapter. Despite the transition, the Seahawks are expected to remain in Seattle, continuing the legacy established under Paul Allen while embarking on a future guided by the Khosla family.
