After enduring a difficult decade marked by frequent relegation battles in the Championship and off-field turmoil under previous ownership, Birmingham City’s struggles reached a low point when they were relegated to League One following a disappointing 2024/25 season.
Ironically, that setback came under the club’s current owners, as Tom Wagner and Knighthead Capital initially found it difficult to deliver on their ambitious plans. One of their biggest missteps was dismissing John Eustace in favour of appointing Wayne Rooney, a decision that ultimately backfired.
Since then, however, the ownership has shown it has learned from those mistakes. Significant investment in the squad and infrastructure has transformed expectations, with Birmingham now heading into the new campaign as one of the leading contenders to secure promotion.
