Polish goalkeeper Daniel Bielica is edging closer to a move to Portsmouth after the Championship club reached a breakthrough in negotiations with NAC Breda.
Bielica joined the Dutch side on a free transfer from Polish club Górnik Zabrze in the summer of 2024 and quickly established himself as a key figure between the posts.
Although NAC Breda endured a difficult campaign that ended in relegation from the Eredivisie, the 27-year-old impressed with several standout performances, recording six clean sheets in 33 league appearances.
With just one year remaining on his contract, Bielica emerged as a transfer target for Portsmouth, who opened discussions over a move to Fratton Park. Initial talks, however, stalled after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee.
NAC Breda had initially shown little interest in selling the goalkeeper before later informing Portsmouth they would consider a deal if an €800,000 offer was submitted. The Championship side were unwilling to meet that valuation, leaving the transfer in doubt.
However, Dutch outlet Voetbal International reports that the two clubs have now reached an agreement worth more than €600,000. The report claims NAC Breda ultimately lowered their asking price after previously insisting on a higher fee.
It is believed the Dutch club’s financial situation played a role in the decision, with the need to generate funds prompting them to accept a reduced offer.
Bielica is now negotiating personal terms with Portsmouth, and if those talks are completed successfully, an official announcement is expected in the near future.
