Bradford City manager Graham Alexander has emerged as an unexpected frontrunner to become the next head coach of Blackburn Rovers after the club decided to part ways with Valérien Ismaël. The decision to dismiss the Frenchman was taken on Monday, following a difficult spell in which Blackburn failed to win any of their last eight matches, a run that saw them slip into the Championship relegation zone.
Alexander’s name has quickly gained traction despite his current role at Bradford City, where he has enjoyed remarkable success since taking over from Mark Hughes in November 2023. The former Fleetwood Town, Salford City and MK Dons boss transformed the Bantams’ fortunes, guiding them to promotion from League Two last season. Building on that achievement, Bradford have continued to impress this campaign, spending the entire season firmly in the League One play-off positions and establishing themselves as genuine contenders near the top end of the table.
Given Blackburn’s precarious position in the Championship, Alexander’s potential appointment would represent a bold and somewhat controversial choice. While his recent track record is undeniably strong, the 54-year-old has limited experience managing at Championship level, which may raise questions among supporters. Nevertheless, his reputation for organisation, discipline and overachievement with limited resources could appeal to a Blackburn hierarchy desperate for stability and a quick turnaround in results.
As Rovers search for a new manager to steer them away from relegation trouble, Alexander’s rapid rise at Bradford has placed him firmly on the radar, marking him out as one of the most intriguing candidates linked with the vacancy at Ewood Park.
