“I Left My Heart at Home Park” – Departing Plymouth Argyle Star Admits Emotional Regret After Exit
Just over a year after his memorable spell with Plymouth Argyle F.C. came to an end, midfielder Finn Azaz is reportedly reflecting on his time in Devon with a strong sense of nostalgia — quietly wondering whether his departure came sooner than he would have liked.
Azaz left the Pilgrims in January 2024, when his parent club Aston Villa F.C. recalled him from his loan spell at Home Park. His exit brought an end to a hugely productive period with the club, during which he became one of the most exciting attacking players in the squad.
The creative midfielder first joined Plymouth on loan in 2022 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team’s attacking play. Known for his vision, technical ability, and eye for goal from midfield, Azaz often delivered decisive moments that helped drive the team forward.
During his time with Argyle, he made more than 60 appearances and scored 15 goals, playing an important role in the club’s successful 2022–23 campaign, when Plymouth secured the EFL League One title and promotion.
His performances and work rate quickly made him a favourite among the Home Park supporters, who admired his creativity and commitment whenever he wore the green shirt.
> “Finn had a special connection with the fans at Plymouth,” a source close to the player said. “Leaving in January wasn’t something he planned for long-term — it happened because of the recall. But he still looks back on that time very fondly.”
After leaving Plymouth, Azaz continued his career in the EFL Championship, later joining Middlesbrough F.C., where he has continued to develop his reputation as an attacking midfielder with real quality.
Despite moving on, Azaz is said to still follow Plymouth’s progress and occasionally checks in on results involving his former teammates.
Supporters at Home Park still remember him for the flair, creativity, and key contributions he made during one of the most exciting periods in the club’s recent history.
For Plymouth Argyle, the focus remains firmly on the future.
But for Finn Azaz, whenever the Pilgrims take the pitch at Home Park, a quiet thought may still linger:
“Maybe I shouldn’t have left just yet.”
