I regret leaving – Former Bills All-Pro cornerback still looking for new team

A former All-Pro cornerback for the Buffalo Bills, Tre’Davious White, is still searching for a new team nearly a month after NFL free agency began, despite having reestablished his value during the 2025 season.

White made his return to the Bills last season and carved out a significant role for himself, but his future remains uncertain. The team had originally released him in March 2024 as part of a broader effort to reduce salary cap expenses, which also led to the departure of several veteran players. Among those released was safety Jordan Poyer. Interestingly, both White and Poyer eventually found their way back to Buffalo during the 2024 season, where they contributed meaningfully once again.

Before rejoining the Bills, White spent time with both the Los Angeles Rams and the Baltimore Ravens during the 2024 campaign. However, his return to Buffalo in 2025 marked a resurgence in his performance. He started 16 games, recording 40 total tackles, one interception, and 10 passes defended—solid numbers that reflected a bounce-back year.

Despite that productive season, White has not attracted much attention on the free agent market. Reports indicate that he has not had any meetings with other teams so far. Still, there is a possibility that he could return to Buffalo once again. According to reports, the Bills have shown some level of interest in bringing him back for the 2026 season, though nothing has been finalized.

General manager Brandon Beane commented on the situation during the NFL Combine in February, expressing appreciation for White’s contributions but remaining noncommittal about the future. He noted that the team is still evaluating its options and that it is too early to make a definitive decision regarding White’s return.

One complicating factor is how well White would fit into the team’s evolving defensive scheme. Changes within the coaching staff—particularly the departure of head coach Sean McDermott—could influence whether the team prioritizes bringing him back. While there may still be interest, it is believed that the likelihood of a reunion might have been stronger under the previous coaching regime.

From a financial standpoint, White is not expected to command a large contract. Estimates suggest his market value could be around $1.2 million, making him an affordable option as a backup or rotational player behind younger cornerbacks such as Christian Benford and Maxwell Hairston.

White’s timeline for signing with a team is also uncertain. Last offseason, he did not join the Bills until late April, well after the initial surge of free agency activity had passed. This suggests he may not feel pressured to rush into a decision this time around either.

He is not the only former Bills player still available. Other veterans, including Jordan Poyer and cornerback Dane Jackson, are also waiting for opportunities as free agency continues.

Meanwhile, the Bills may look to strengthen their defense through the upcoming NFL Draft. Some analysts predict the team could trade down from their original position and still secure a high-quality player. For instance, ESPN analyst Field Yates projected that Buffalo might select Georgia linebacker C.J. Allen with the 34th overall pick, addressing a key need at inside linebacker. Allen is regarded as a physical and versatile defender with strong coverage abilities and pass-rushing upside.

Additionally, NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter suggested that the Bills could focus on improving their pass rush by selecting Texas A&M edge rusher Cashius Howell in the first round. Howell’s speed and ability to pressure quarterbacks could make him an impactful addition to the team’s evolving defensive unit, despite concerns about his arm length.

Overall, while Tre’Davious White has proven he can still contribute at a high level, his next destination remains uncertain as teams continue to evaluate their rosters and future nerds.
