Dylan Moore, currently in camp with the Philadelphia Phillies as a non-roster invitee, is expected to activate an opt-out clause in his contract, according to a March 19 report. Will Sammon of The Athletic states that Moore could become a free agent on March 21 if he is not added to the team’s 40 -man roster within the next two days, with at least one National League East rival monitoring the situation.
Moore, who played six different positions for the Seattle Mariners in 2024 and earned a Gold Glove, has posted a .226/.324/.258 line across 13 Grapefruit League games. He delivered a strong showing on March 18 against the Atlanta Braves, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk.
An 80 -game PED suspension to Johan Rojas has opened up a spot on the Phillies’ Opening Day roster. Edmundo Sosa and rookie Otto Kemp are expected to claim two bench roles, leaving Moore competing for the final place. While he offers standout defensive versatility, his offensive struggles may hurt his chances of securing a roster spot.
Meanwhile, Felix Reyes impressed offensively in camp but has already been reassigned to the minor leagues.
If Moore is not retained, the New York Mets are believed to be among the clubs interested. Despite a crowded infield that includes Mark Vientos, who is struggling this spring and is out of minor league options, the Mets could still explore adding depth.
Other potential landing spots mentioned include the Baltimore Orioles and the Houston Astros if Moore decides to opt out and test free agency.
