Since arriving at Southampton on loan from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, Daniel Peretz has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad. The goalkeeper has stepped in as the club’s first-choice option, replacing Gavin Bazunu under manager Tonda Eckert, and his presence has coincided with a noticeable upturn in the team’s fortunes.

Leave or stay? – Southampton wary of Leo Scienza departure as Premier League clubs begin scouting.

Southampton endured a very difficult start to the season, struggling for consistency and results. However, in recent weeks they have managed to climb the table and re-enter the promotion race. Their narrow 1-0 victory over Norwich City in midweek was another important step in that resurgence, lifting them into the Championship’s top six.

Peretz played a crucial role in that win, delivering a standout performance and keeping his fifth clean sheet in just 12 league appearances. His display earned him the man of the match award, further underlining how influential he has been since joining the club. Given his strong performances, there is growing belief that Southampton will look to make his move permanent, especially as they reportedly have an option to buy included in the loan deal.

The 25-year-old himself appears fully committed to the club’s ambitions. After the win over Norwich, he took to social media to celebrate the result and highlight the team’s unity, describing the squad as “special” and expressing his eagerness to focus on the next game. With Southampton now well-positioned to secure a play-off spot, Peretz seems determined to help the team maintain momentum.

His teammate Leo Scienza responded warmly to the post, showing both admiration and camaraderie. In a lighthearted message, Scienza used octopus emojis—a common way to praise goalkeepers for their shot-stopping ability—before going on to compliment Peretz more personally. He described him as not only a talented player but also a good-looking individual, a great person, and a close friend, highlighting how well he has settled into the dressing room.

Peretz’s arrival also led to changes within the squad, with Gavin Bazunu being sent out on loan to Stoke City. Since then, Peretz has firmly cemented his place as the undisputed number one goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Scienza himself has been an important contributor this season, registering six goals and eight assists in 30 league appearances. His performances, alongside Peretz’s impact, have helped Southampton push into a strong position as they approach a crucial stage of the campaign.

Following their win over Norwich, Southampton now sit sixth in the table and will be aiming to hold onto their play-off spot. Their next challenge comes in the form of an in-form Oxford United side, whom they will face at St. Mary’s just before the March international break.

Looking ahead, a permanent move for Peretz increasingly seems like the logical outcome. His influence has been felt both on the pitch—where he has strengthened the team defensively—and off it, where he appears to have integrated seamlessly into the squad. Considering his limited opportunities at Bayern Munich, this loan spell has revitalized his career, giving him regular game time and the chance to potentially play in the Premier League.

Overall, the arrangement has proven beneficial for all parties involved, and it would be a straightforward and sensible decision for Southampton to activate the option to sign him permanently in the summer.
