Bradford City manager Graham Alexander has made it clear that he has not yet entered into any direct discussions with players who may be considering leaving the club. Despite ongoing speculation, Alexander stressed that no member of the squad has formally approached him to talk about a possible exit.
Once again, Andy Cook and Alex Pattison were absent from the matchday squad as Bradford City secured their third victory in four matches with a win at Blackpool. George Lapslie travelled with the team to Bloomfield Road but did not feature among the selected 18 players, while Tommy Leigh appeared briefly from the bench. However, Leigh’s long-term future at Valley Parade remains uncertain.
Following the match, Alexander acknowledged that the club has received enquiries regarding some of its players. Nevertheless, he emphasised that none of the players involved have requested personal meetings to discuss their situations so far. According to the manager, the packed fixture schedule has made such conversations difficult, as preparation, recovery, and planning for the next game have taken priority.
Alexander explained that the relentless run of matches has left little opportunity for sit-down discussions, but with a slight break approaching, those talks will now take place. He assured players that he is always willing to listen and that his door remains open to anyone wishing to discuss their future. Drawing from his own playing experience, he highlighted the importance of communication and mutual understanding between manager and player.
While reaffirming that the club’s best interests will always come first, Alexander acknowledged that players’ viewpoints must also be considered. He added that this type of situation is common in football and does not present any major concerns.
Meanwhile, loan signing Louie Sibley made his Bradford City debut at Blackpool after joining from Oxford United. The midfielder was introduced as a substitute and marked his first appearance for the club.
Although City have been linked with Crystal Palace teenager Hindolo Mustapha, Alexander confirmed that there are currently no concrete plans to bring in additional players. He explained that transfer activity has been minimal, largely because Sibley’s loan move had already been finalised well ahead of the deadline and the congested run of fixtures left little time for further negotiations.
Alexander noted that while some loan players elsewhere may still be seeking opportunities during this limited window, Bradford City will carefully assess their options over the coming weeks. His priority is to strengthen the squad only if it genuinely improves the group, rather than making changes for the sake of it. He praised the current squad for their consistency and strong performances over an extended period, emphasising that any new additions must clearly add value.
Sibley came on for Calum Kavanagh shortly after the hour mark and played a role in helping City secure their fourth away victory of the season. The result kept Bradford third in the table with 46 points, opening a seven-point gap over Huddersfield after Exeter scored a late equaliser at the Accu Stadium.
The 24-year-old had trained only briefly with his new teammates the day before the match, receiving a quick introduction from Alexander and assistant Chris Lucketti on the team’s pressing style. Alexander admitted that it will take a few more training sessions for Sibley to fully adapt, but expressed confidence in his ability.
He praised Sibley’s attitude, personality, work ethic, and technical ability, describing him as a strong fit for the club’s recruitment profile. Alexander stressed that the club targets players who have proven themselves, achieved success before, and understand what it takes to earn promotion. Having previously experienced success at this level, Sibley fits that mould and brings hunger and motivation that can further strengthen the squad’s ambition.
