The 22-year-old wide player has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract at the Kassam Stadium, marking a significant addition to Oxford’s attacking options. Emakhu had attracted strong interest from a number of Championship clubs in recent days, as previously reported, but Oxford moved decisively to secure his signature. Millwall’s decision to bring in Tommy Watson on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion ultimately cleared the path for Emakhu’s departure.

Millwall had been keen to retain the Irish winger in the past, rejecting two approaches from League One side Wycombe Wanderers last summer. However, the circumstances aligned this window for the move to be completed.

During the current campaign, Emakhu featured 31 times for the Lions across all competitions, contributing two goals and three assists. Since arriving at The Den in January 2023 from Shamrock Rovers for a fee just over £100,000, he has gone on to make 82 appearances in total, scoring three goals. His Millwall debut came a month after his signing, in a fixture against Burnley, and he departs having gained valuable Championship experience.

Speaking after completing his move, Emakhu expressed his excitement at joining Oxford United, describing the transfer as the perfect step in his development. He said he is eager to give everything for the club, showcase his abilities to the supporters, and begin creating memorable moments in an Oxford shirt.

Oxford United Head Coach Matt Bloomfield also welcomed the signing, highlighting Emakhu’s pace and creativity as key attributes. Bloomfield noted that the club believes there is further room for improvement in the winger’s game and views him as an important part of both their immediate plans and long-term project.

Head of Football Operations Ed Waldron echoed those sentiments, describing Emakhu as an exciting young talent with solid Championship experience. Waldron praised the player’s technical quality, versatility across the forward line, and positive attitude, revealing that Oxford have monitored him closely for a considerable period. He added that the club is delighted to have finalised the deal and bring Emakhu to Oxford United.
