Ellis Simms’ Time at Coventry City Appears to Be Drawing to a Close

 

Pressure is beginning to build at Coventry City F.C. despite an overall competitive 2025/26 campaign. With the club pushing to remain among the top sides in the EFL Championship, expectations have risen, and scrutiny on underperforming players has intensified.

 

One of the key concerns for Coventry has been inconsistency in front of goal. While the team has shown attacking quality at times, they have struggled to convert chances regularly, placing added pressure on their forwards.

 

Among those under increasing scrutiny is striker Ellis Simms. The 25-year-old joined Coventry City from Everton F.C. in a deal worth around £3.5 million, a fee that made him one of the club’s notable attacking investments in recent seasons.

 

However, his impact during the current campaign has been inconsistent, raising questions about his long-term role at the club.

 

Growing Frustration Among Supporters

 

Simms initially showed promise following his arrival, quickly becoming a fan favourite thanks to his physical presence and ability to lead the line. His early performances suggested Coventry had secured a reliable goal scorer capable of making a difference in key matches.

 

But over time, inconsistency and competition for places have affected his influence. Despite flashes of quality, his goal return has not always matched expectations, particularly for a striker brought in to strengthen the attack.

 

Supporters are beginning to question whether the club may need a more clinical option if they are to maintain their push at the top end of the table.

 

A Promising Signing That Has Yet to Fully Deliver

 

When Simms joined Coventry, the move was widely seen as a smart piece of business. With experience in English football and a strong physical profile, he appeared well-suited to the demands of the Championship.

 

While he has contributed important moments, he has struggled to establish himself as a consistently reliable goal scorer. In a team competing at a high level, that inconsistency has become more noticeable.

 

For a player signed for a multi-million-pound fee, expectations remain high — and Coventry may feel they are still waiting to see the best return on that investment.

 

Summer Decision Looming

 

With Coventry City already planning ahead, several players could face uncertain futures as the club looks to strengthen its squad.

 

Simms remains a capable forward, but his position is no longer guaranteed. If Coventry decide to reinforce their attacking options, he could be among those considered for departure.

 

Unless he can rediscover consistent form before the end of the season, the once highly rated signing may be approaching a crucial turning point in his Coventry City career.
