Sunderland AFC have issued a firm response after reports emerged that Real Madrid are preparing a club-record €85 million bid for Northern Ireland full-back Trai Hume. With José Mourinho reportedly eager to add Hume as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, interest from the Spanish giants has intensified.
Despite the temptation of joining one of the world’s biggest clubs, Hume has made his position clear. “I’m loyal to this club. If they accept the move, I’ll go, but if they don’t, I’ll stay because Sunderland lifted me during my most trying times. I can’t betray the club by forcing a move,” he said.
The Black Cats, however, have reportedly declared the defender “not negotiable” as they prepare for a historic European campaign. Sunderland’s hierarchy see Hume as a cornerstone of their ambitious project and are determined to keep one of their most influential players despite Real Madrid’s record-breaking interest.
