AC Milan Target Manchester United Winger Amad as Premier League Interest Intensifies
AC Milan are reportedly preparing to step up their pursuit of Manchester United winger Amad, with the Serie A giants keen on reuniting the Ivorian with former United boss Ruben Amorim. The Italian club are not alone in tracking the talented attacker either, as Premier League sides Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United have also emerged as interested parties should an opportunity to sign him arise this summer.
Amad enjoyed an impressive spell under Amorim during the Portuguese coach’s time at Old Trafford. Although naturally an attacking winger, the 24-year-old successfully adapted to an unfamiliar wing-back role, becoming one of United’s most reliable performers thanks to his technical ability, creativity, relentless work ethic, and tactical discipline.
His excellent club form was followed by a strong showing for Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup in North America, where he once again demonstrated his quality on the international stage. Those performances only reinforced his growing reputation as one of Manchester United’s most valuable attacking players.
However, following Amorim’s departure in January, Amad found life more difficult under interim manager Michael Carrick. Initially, Carrick deployed him on the right wing while Bryan Mbeumo operated as a false nine. But tactical adjustments later saw Mbeumo return to his preferred wide position after Benjamin Sesko was introduced as the central striker, leaving Amad with fewer opportunities and a reduced role in the squad.
Despite the drop in playing time, Manchester United remain fully committed to keeping the winger. With the club set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season alongside domestic league and cup competitions, the coaching staff view Amad as an important member of a squad that will require greater depth to handle a demanding schedule across multiple tournaments.
Senior figures within the club reportedly hold Amad in high regard, believing he remains a key part of United’s long-term project. The player himself is also understood to be happy at Old Trafford, and neither side is actively seeking a transfer during the current window.
Nevertheless, that has not discouraged potential suitors from monitoring the situation closely.
According to reports, newly-appointed AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim has identified Amad as one of his priority transfer targets. Amorim is believed to value the player’s versatility and sees him as an ideal option to strengthen Milan’s attacking and wing-back positions within his preferred tactical system.
A move would also represent a return to familiar surroundings for Amad, who began his professional career in Italy after progressing through Atalanta’s academy before completing his move to Manchester United.
Reports suggest Milan are planning to submit a financially sensible offer rather than an extravagant bid. While they hope Amorim’s previous relationship with the player could help convince him, the proposed package is unlikely to match Manchester United’s valuation.
The Red Devils are in a particularly strong negotiating position after Amad signed a long-term contract extension in January 2025, tying him to the club until 2030. Because of that agreement, United are under no pressure to sell and would reportedly only consider letting him leave if they received an extraordinary offer that significantly exceeded his market value.
Alongside Milan, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United are also said to be keeping a close watch on developments. Both Premier League clubs admire the winger and could increase their interest if circumstances change later in the transfer window.
Even so, Manchester United are unlikely to strengthen domestic rivals by selling one of their prized assets to another English club. Brighton and Newcastle may possess the financial resources to submit substantial offers, but United would almost certainly be reluctant to approve such a deal.
While AC Milan’s rich history and Amorim’s presence could make the move attractive from a sporting perspective, the financial realities of Italian football may prevent the Serie A club from producing the exceptional bid required to convince Manchester United to part ways with one of their most highly-rated players.
As things stand, Amad remains firmly in United’s plans, and unless a truly remarkable offer arrives before the transfer window closes, the expectation is that he will continue his development at Old Trafford heading into the new season.
