Everton Consider Late Move for Timothy Castagne as Right-Back Search Intensifies
Everton are reportedly considering a late approach for Fulham defender Timothy Castagne as manager David Moyes continues his search for a reliable right-back before the summer transfer window closes.
According to reports from The Athletic, the Merseyside club are still assessing several options for the position, with experienced Belgian international Castagne emerging as one of the players on their radar. Everton are keen to bring in an established defender who can immediately provide stability, and Castagne’s extensive Premier League experience makes him an attractive candidate.
The 30-year-old has made more than 170 Premier League appearances throughout his career, giving him a level of experience that could prove valuable to an Everton side looking for a dependable option at right-back.
Everton’s Right-Back Problem
Everton’s need for reinforcement in the position has become increasingly important following the departure of long-serving captain Seamus Coleman. Nathan Patterson has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Moyes and is currently not regarded as a guaranteed starting option. There is also growing speculation that the Scotland international could leave the club before the transfer window shuts.
Last season, Moyes was forced to find alternative solutions, with central defender Jake O’Brien occasionally being used at right-back. While that provided a temporary answer, Everton are understood to want a natural full-back who can take responsibility for the position on a more permanent basis.
That has made finding an experienced right-back one of the club’s priorities during the closing stages of the transfer window.
Castagne’s Fulham Experience
Castagne joined Fulham from Leicester City in the summer of 2023 in a deal believed to be worth around £15 million. Since arriving at Craven Cottage, the Belgian has become a trusted member of the squad and has provided valuable experience at both domestic and international level.
He has made 105 appearances for Fulham, contributing seven goals during his time with the club. His importance was also evident last season, when he featured 36 times across all competitions and played more than 2,300 minutes.
For Everton, those numbers underline the type of player Moyes could be looking for: someone experienced enough to contribute immediately rather than another young player who would require significant development before becoming a regular starter.
Could Castagne Leave Fulham?
Everton may have an opportunity to test Fulham’s resolve because of Castagne’s current contract situation. His existing deal is due to expire next summer, meaning Fulham must now consider whether to keep him for the final year of his contract or listen to offers while they can still receive a transfer fee.
The situation could become even more interesting if Fulham manage to strengthen their own right-back position.
The West London club have reportedly been looking at potential replacements, with Raoul Bellanova among the players linked with a move to Craven Cottage. If Fulham can secure a suitable alternative, it could potentially make Castagne’s departure easier to sanction.
For Everton, that could create an opportunity to make a late push for the Belgian defender.
However, any potential deal is likely to depend on several factors, particularly Fulham’s willingness to sell, the fee involved and whether Marco Silva’s side can bring in a replacement before the window closes.
With the transfer deadline approaching, Everton will be hoping they can find a solution to their right-back problem, and Castagne’s experience could make him a particularly appealing option for Moyes.
