Coventry City Unveil £15m CBS Arena Transformation Plan as Doug King Targets ‘World’s Best Talent’
Coventry City have taken a major step towards transforming the Coventry Building Society Arena into a premier destination for sport, entertainment and hospitality after announcing a landmark £15 million investment programme.
The Sky Blues have partnered with Legends Global, a leading global sports and entertainment company, in a three-year joint investment programme designed to significantly improve the experience at the CBS Arena while creating new opportunities to generate revenue from the venue.
The partnership brings together Coventry City, the arena and Legends Global, which has extensive experience working with some of the world’s most recognised stadiums, arenas and convention centres. The company has previously worked with major names in football and entertainment, including Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea.
With Coventry City preparing for their return to the Premier League, the club and its partners are aiming to ensure the CBS Arena matches the growing profile and ambitions of the football club and the city.
The long-term objective is to establish the CBS Arena as one of the United Kingdom’s leading venues, capable of attracting visitors throughout the entire year rather than relying solely on football fixtures.
Under the investment programme, the arena will undergo a wide-ranging transformation. Plans include redesigned food and drink kiosks, improved catering facilities, upgraded technology and new premium hospitality areas designed to provide supporters, concertgoers and other visitors with a significantly better experience.
One of the most eye-catching elements of the project will be a collaboration with Simon Rogan’s Umbel Restaurant Group, whose restaurants collectively boast 10 Michelin stars. The partnership is expected to raise the standard of food and hospitality available at the arena.
Coventry City said the project would help strengthen the CBS Arena’s reputation both nationally and internationally, with the ambition of making it a destination capable of hosting major sporting events, live music, exhibitions, conferences and hospitality experiences throughout the year.
The club described the partnership as another clear indication of its ambitions following promotion to the Premier League.
Owner Doug King believes the project represents a significant moment for both Coventry City and the wider city, insisting that the club’s ambitions extend well beyond what happens on the football pitch.
“This is a landmark partnership for Coventry City, Coventry Building Society Arena and the city as a whole,” King said. “Our return to the Premier League is a defining moment, but our ambition extends far beyond what happens on the pitch.
“Together with Legends Global, we are making a significant investment in the future of this venue and transforming the experience for everyone who comes through its doors.
“We want to attract the world’s best talent both on and off the pitch and establish Coventry as a leading destination for sport, music, exhibitions, conferences and hospitality, 365 days a year.”
King added that the investment was about creating an environment that reflects the scale of Coventry’s ambitions and demonstrating that the city can compete with major destinations on the national and international stage.
Legends Global President Chris Bray also welcomed the partnership, describing Coventry’s promotion to the Premier League as a major moment for the club, its supporters and the city.
According to Bray, the CBS Arena needs to provide an experience worthy of Coventry’s return to the top flight, and Legends Global intends to play a major role in delivering that transformation.
He explained that the project would go beyond simply improving day-to-day operations, with the focus instead on creating a completely upgraded experience for everyone visiting the venue.
That transformation will include renovated kiosks, better food and drink options, upgraded premium hospitality spaces and modern technology designed to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Legends Global believes the improvements can establish a new standard for what supporters and visitors should expect from a modern stadium.
For Coventry City, the £15 million project represents an important part of the club’s wider growth strategy. With Premier League football returning to the city, the Sky Blues are looking to ensure that the CBS Arena develops alongside the team and becomes a major attraction capable of welcoming visitors 365 days a year.
If successfully delivered, the transformation could give Coventry a significantly enhanced venue for football, music, business events, exhibitions and hospitality while providing the club with another important source of revenue as it enters a new era in the Premier League.
