Manchester United are closing in on a major deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba after stepping up their pursuit of the Cameroon international.
United have submitted an offer worth around £60 million plus £5 million in potential add-ons, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing. The proposal is understood to be below Brighton’s valuation, but talks have reportedly remained positive as both sides work towards reaching a final agreement.
The 22-year-old has been a long-term target for Manchester United, who have identified midfield as an area requiring further reinforcement. The club have already strengthened the position this summer but remain keen to add a more natural defensive midfielder to their squad.
Sky Sports reports that United are now close to a full agreement with Brighton, while a five-year contract is reportedly ready for Baleba once the transfer is formally completed. Plans for a medical are also being prepared, with the midfielder understood to be ready to travel to Manchester once the final agreement is reached.
Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has developed into an important part of the Seagulls’ midfield. His ability to win possession, carry the ball forward and provide defensive protection has made him an attractive option for United.
However, the deal is not officially completed yet. The final fee and structure still need to be agreed between Manchester United and Brighton before the transfer can be finalised.
If an agreement is reached, Baleba would become another significant addition to United’s midfield as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
