The Philadelphia Phillies have parted ways with manager Rob Thomson following a poor 9–19 start to the 2026 season — their worst opening through 28 games since 2002. Don Mattingly has been appointed as interim manager as the team attempts to steady its season.
Thomson, who stepped in as manager in June 2022 after Joe Girardi was dismissed, guided the Phillies to four consecutive playoff appearances and secured two NL East titles. However, a damaging 10-game losing streak, combined with the team slipping 10 games below .500 for the first time since 2017, ultimately led to his exit. Despite carrying a $317 million payroll and entering the season with World Series ambitions, the Phillies struggled and found themselves near the bottom of the NL East standings.
