Birmingham City signed the forward from Deportivo Alavés during the January transfer window, with the Spaniard leaving La Liga in search of a fresh challenge in England. Since arriving at St Andrew’s, he has featured 18 times in all competitions for BCFC, including 17 league appearances, while contributing three goals and one assist.
Chris Davies’ men ended the recent Championship campaign in 10th place, finishing nine points behind sixth-placed Hull City after 46 matches. The Blues will now be aiming to push for promotion to the Premier League next season.
Vicente has admitted he hopes to return to Real Zaragoza one day, telling La Otra Grada on YouTube via Sport Aragon: “Of course I’d love to play for the club of my life. My family is from here, my friends support the club, and the chance to live in my city and enjoy special moments there really excites me. Going back would feel like completing the circle. I’ve never hidden how much I’d love to play for Zaragoza.”
Birmingham brought Vicente in to strengthen their attacking options, adding greater depth and competition in forward areas.
The Championship side reportedly paid around £7 million for his signature and tied him down to a contract running until June 2029.
Vicente is competing with players such as Demarai Gray, Patrick Roberts and Jay Stansfield for a regular starting spot under Davies. Although it has taken time for him to settle, adapting to a new country and league often requires patience.
The Zaragoza-born attacker impressed during his spell with Alavés before Birmingham came calling. He registered 17 goals and 17 assists in 83 appearances for the Spanish side before opting for a move away.
