Southampton Reward Rachel Brown With New Contract After Injury Comeback
Southampton have confirmed that defender Rachel Brown has signed a new contract, extending her stay with the club for the 2026/27 season after an inspiring return from a long-term injury.
The announcement was made on the club’s official website, with the Saints reaffirming their faith in the experienced full-back as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.
Brown, 25, first arrived at Southampton in the summer of 2024 after departing Sheffield United. She quickly established herself as a dependable option in the defensive line, making 15 appearances during her debut season. However, her progress was interrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, forcing her to spend an extended period on the sidelines and undergo a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Despite the setback, both the player and the club remained committed to her recovery. Southampton continued to support Brown throughout her rehabilitation, and her determination eventually paid off as she successfully returned to first-team action. Since regaining full fitness, she has added seven more appearances to her record, demonstrating resilience and determination in her comeback.
Recognising both her experience and the qualities she brings to the squad, Southampton have chosen to reward Brown with a new one-year deal. The extension reflects the club’s confidence that the defender can play an important role as the Saints look to build on their progress during the 2026/27 season.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on her new contract, Brown expressed her gratitude for the club’s unwavering support during one of the most difficult periods of her career.
“I’m really excited. Obviously I’ve been here for two years now, but I was injured for a big part of that, and the club stuck by me the whole way, so I’m grateful to be here and have the opportunity to repay that faith.
“I’m looking forward to getting back in with the girls, working hard throughout pre-season, and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together this year.”
