Portsmouth have been rocked by fresh speculation surrounding midfielder Andre Dozzell after reports claimed the fan favourite wants greater ambition shown by the club this summer — or he could consider his future at Fratton Park.
The 26-year-old has quickly become one of Pompey’s most important players since arriving from QPR, earning praise from supporters for his composure, passing range and leadership in midfield. After helping Portsmouth secure Championship survival last season, Dozzell is believed to want assurances the club can continue progressing rather than simply fighting near the bottom of the table again.
Sources close to the club suggest the midfielder is eager to see stronger backing in the transfer market, with several Championship rivals already strengthening ahead of the new campaign. While there has been no official ultimatum from the player, growing uncertainty over Portsmouth’s summer budget has sparked concern among supporters.
Dozzell enjoyed one of the most consistent seasons of his career last term, making over 40 appearances in all competitions and becoming a key figure under manager John Mousinho. His performances have reportedly attracted interest from clubs both in England and abroad.
Fans reacted nervously to the rumours on social media, with many calling on the club’s hierarchy to support Mousinho in the transfer window and keep hold of one of the squad’s standout performers.
One supporter wrote: “Dozzell is exactly the type of player we need to build around, not lose.” Another added: “If Portsmouth want to establish themselves in the Championship, keeping players like him is essential.”
Despite the speculation, no formal transfer request has been submitted, and Portsmouth remain hopeful that Dozzell will stay at Fratton Park for the upcoming season.
