Meet Portsmouth’s free-scoring striker – and John Mousinho on why he isn’t in first-team contention

Portsmouth’s academy forward Tayo (Olutayo) Singerr has been one of the revelations of this season’s non-league scene while out on loan — but manager John Mousinho says the 17-year-old is still not ready for regular first-team Championship action.

Singerr joined Isthmian League side Moneyfields on an initial short-term loan in late August and has quickly become their main attacking threat. Club and local reporting show he has been prolific for Moneyfields this season, scoring regularly since his arrival and registering double-figure goal returns in competitive first-team football at senior men’s level. Moneyfields’ own site and player profile confirm the loan and his strong scoring record there.

The youngster also scored on his senior debut for Portsmouth — a late headed goal after coming on as a substitute in the EFL Cup tie with Reading — demonstrating why the academy and supporters have high hopes for him. The News notes that Singerr’s form on loan has equalled the goal tally of senior striker Colby Bishop in a Pompey shirt this term, underlining his productivity at Moneyfields.

Despite those numbers, Mousinho has been clear that Singerr will remain on loan while the club consider the right development pathway. In comments to The News, Mousinho said Singerr “has had a pretty good season and scored a lot of goals,” but added that the forward is still a second-year academy scholar and “probably not ready (for the first team) at the moment.” Mousinho stressed the club are “keeping an eye on him” and will make decisions about his next step in due course.

Moneyfields’ manager and club communications have also praised Singerr’s adaptation to men’s football — highlighting his movement, finishing and willingness to learn in a physical league — which has been a major factor behind his goalscoring form on loan.
