Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a final, take-it-or-leave-it bid for Lille winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Magpies began their Premier League campaign with an impressive 2-2 draw against Liverpool at St James’ Park, although a 95th-minute Dominik Szoboszlai penalty prevented them from claiming all three points.
With manager Matthias Jaissle eager to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes, Newcastle have already agreed a £50 million deal for Nico Gonzalez and are now focusing on adding further attacking options.
Tavolieri reports that Newcastle are ready to return with a significantly improved offer for Fernandez-Pardo after Lille rejected a previous bid worth around £35 million. The 21-year-old is reportedly keen to leave the French club this summer, despite Lille’s participation in the Champions League.
Lille president Olivier Letang has so far resisted attempts to sell the Belgium international, who has also attracted strong interest from Atletico Madrid. However, Newcastle are prepared to offer more than £53 million in a final attempt to secure his signature, with Lille believed to value the player at around €60 million.
The proposal is expected to be submitted on Tuesday, with Newcastle making it clear that they will not improve the offer again. If Lille reject the bid, the Premier League club will turn their attention to alternative targets.
Fernandez-Pardo’s versatility is another major attraction, as he can operate on the wing, as a number 10 or through the middle as a striker. His pace and attacking ability could provide Jaissle with another dangerous option alongside Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga and William Osula.
