Portsmouth chief executive Andy Cullen has insisted the club is under no pressure to sell its key players this summer, despite growing interest in Terry Devlin and Adrian Segecic. He described John Mousinho’s current squad as the strongest he has seen during his five years at Fratton Park.
Cullen confirmed that Wrexham made a reported £2 million bid for Devlin in January after the Northern Ireland international enjoyed a breakthrough season. Meanwhile, Segecic has attracted attention from clubs in the Premier League, Championship, and Europe after ending the campaign as Pompey’s top scorer and earning the Championship Player of the Month award for April following eight goal contributions in the final six matches.
Although further interest in both players is expected, Cullen stressed Portsmouth will only sanction departures if the offers benefit the club. He explained that any sale must allow Pompey to strengthen the squad in return and said the club is in a strong position financially and strategically.
Cullen added that Portsmouth’s recruitment model is focused on signing talented young players who are ready for first-team football, helping them develop and increase in value. He believes several members of the squad have now reached that stage, which naturally leads to transfer speculation.
Mousinho has already admitted it could be difficult to keep hold of Devlin, especially given the huge rise in value since Portsmouth signed him from Glentoran for around £70,000.
