His performances haven’t gone under the radar, with Portsmouth’s Championship rivals beginning to take notice. Hull City, who are pushing for a play-off spot, are the latest club to show interest in Dieng and could look to bring him in on a free transfer this summer.
According to O’Rourke, the Tigers see the former Marseille forward as a possible addition as Sergej Jakirovic aims to strengthen his attacking options. Hull remain firmly in the hunt for a top-six finish and head into the final weekend level on points with sixth-placed Wrexham.
Dieng, who progressed through the ranks at Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome, secured a €10 million (£8.6m) move to Lorient in January 2023. Since then, the 21-cap Senegal international has scored 22 goals in 57 appearances at the Stade du Moustoir and is currently the club’s leading scorer this season.
Speaking to French outlet Le Télégramme, a club representative said they are keen to extend his contract, although no agreement is guaranteed and will depend on what they can offer. They praised Dieng’s humility and professionalism, noting that despite being sidelined early on amid uncertainty over his future, he has remained committed. The club now hopes to do what’s needed to continue building with him in the years ahead.
