Portsmouth FC are enduring a major injury crisis ahead of their crucial meeting with Charlton Athletic, with as many as 14 players currently unavailable.
Manager John Mousinho faces a serious selection headache, with absences stretching across defence, midfield and attack at a vital stage of the campaign.
Defensive Problems Mount
Portsmouth’s backline has been significantly weakened.
Conor Shaughnessy remains sidelined with a muscle issue and is not expected to feature against Charlton.
Josh Knight continues to recover from a back problem and remains a doubt.
Hayden Matthews is unavailable due to an ankle injury.
Mark Kosznovszky is recovering from a long-term knee injury and is not expected to return in the immediate future.
The defensive absentees have forced Mousinho to rotate personnel and adjust his tactical approach in recent matches.
Attacking Blow After Blow
The injury list extends further forward:
Florian Bianchini is out with a knee issue.
Harvey Blair is recovering from a muscle injury.
Josh Murphy remains sidelined with an ankle problem.
Franco Umeh-Chibueze is dealing with a significant hamstring injury.
Thomas Waddingham is unavailable due to a hip concern.
With several attacking options missing, Portsmouth’s depth in forward areas has been stretched.
Midfield Concerns
Conor Chaplin is recovering from a groin strain and remains unavailable.
Andre Dozzell faces a late fitness assessment.
Adrian Segecic is also being monitored after picking up a knock.
A Difficult Test Ahead
The timing of the injury crisis could hardly be worse. With points crucial at this stage of the season, Portsmouth travel to Charlton with a depleted squad and limited rotation options.
Mousinho will now look to the available senior players and academy prospects to step up as the Blues attempt to navigate one of their most challenging periods of the campaign.
