Folarin Balogun has developed into the striker many predicted he would become during his time in Arsenal’s academy, with Sunderland now eager to bring the American forward back to English football.
After leaving the Gunners in pursuit of regular first-team opportunities, Balogun has flourished in France. A product of Arsenal’s renowned Hale End academy, Balogun gained valuable experience during loan spells at Middlesbrough and Reims, where he developed into a more complete centre-forward.
His outstanding 21-goal season with Reims convinced Monaco to invest around £34 million in 2023. Although he endured an uneven debut campaign in the Principality, he has since justified that transfer fee with a standout second season.
Balogun further enhanced his reputation with impressive performances at this summer’s World Cup, attracting attention from clubs across Europe.
