Graham Alexander did not hide his frustration after his side’s failure to secure automatic promotion, delivering a blunt assessment of some players’ performances in a season-defining setback. The manager, visibly furious, admitted the collapse was unacceptable given what was at stake and suggested certain individuals failed to rise to the occasion when the club needed composure, intensity, and leadership.
Alexander pointed to a lack of urgency and poor decision-making in crucial moments, insisting the standards expected at a club chasing promotion were not met. While refusing to single out names publicly, his message was clear: too many players underperformed when pressure mounted, and that has come at a heavy cost.
“This club had automatic promotion in its hands,” Alexander reportedly said. “To let it slip through performances like that is deeply disappointing. Some players have to take a long, hard look at themselves.”
The Bradford City boss also hinted at serious reflection ahead of next season, raising questions about whether every member of the squad has the mentality required to deliver success. While he took responsibility as manager, Alexander made it known accountability must be shared.
With promotion now left to the uncertainty of the playoffs, tension has risen around the club, and Alexander’s outburst may signal major changes could be coming this summer.
