Flamengo’s hopes of bringing former academy graduate Rodrigo Muniz back to Brazil this summer have been dealt a significant setback, with Fulham refusing to lower their valuation of the striker. The Premier League club are reportedly demanding at least €40 million for the 25-year-old, a figure that could ultimately put the transfer beyond Flamengo’s financial reach.

According to reports from Somos Fanaticos, Flamengo have been monitoring Muniz’s situation and are fully aware that signing him would require a major financial commitment. However, Fulham’s asking price is considered exceptionally high by Brazilian football standards, even for a club with Flamengo’s financial strength and recent spending power.

Muniz endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign after injuries severely disrupted his progress. The Brazilian forward featured in only 25 matches across all competitions, managing just one goal during a difficult season. Despite those underwhelming statistics, Fulham remain convinced that the striker still possesses the quality that made him one of their most promising attacking talents.

The club’s confidence has been boosted by the arrival of new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who reportedly believes Muniz can return to his best with a full pre-season and a clean bill of health. Rather than judging the striker solely on last season’s disappointing numbers, Fulham see his injury struggles as a temporary setback and are optimistic that he can become an important player once again.

Flamengo have shown in the past that they are willing to invest heavily in top talent, most notably when they secured the return of Lucas Paqueta. However, matching Fulham’s €40 million valuation for Muniz would represent an even greater financial commitment and is viewed as a difficult deal to complete under the club’s current budget. Although Muniz is regarded as someone who would significantly strengthen Flamengo’s attacking options, the overall cost of the transfer remains a major stumbling block.

At present, Flamengo’s interest has not progressed beyond the exploratory stage. The Brazilian giants have yet to submit an official bid or enter formal negotiations with Fulham, as they continue to evaluate whether a move is financially viable. Until a concrete offer is made, discussions remain speculative.

Fulham are also in a strong negotiating position due to Muniz’s long-term contract, which runs until 2030. With several years remaining on his deal, the London club are under no pressure to sell and can comfortably maintain their high valuation unless a club is prepared to meet their demands.

The departure of veteran striker Raul Jimenez has further increased Muniz’s importance within Fulham’s plans. Even if the Cottagers bring in another centre-forward before the transfer window closes, the Brazilian is still expected to enjoy a much larger role in Arbeloa’s squad during the upcoming campaign.

For the time being, Muniz’s attention remains firmly on Fulham’s pre-season preparations rather than transfer speculation. Unless Flamengo decide to significantly increase their spending or Fulham soften their stance on the asking price, a return to his boyhood club appears increasingly unlikely this summer. Having left Brazil for English football in 2021, the striker’s immediate future looks set to remain at Craven Cottage rather than the Maracanã.
