Wrexham A.F.C. are expected to strengthen their squad this summer as they continue their push toward the Premier League after narrowly missing out on a Championship playoff place. Despite achieving the highest league finish in the club’s 162-year history with seventh place, manager Phil Parkinson and his side were left disappointed after falling short on the final day of the campaign.
The club is unlikely to stand still during the transfer window and is expected to target several high-profile additions to boost their promotion hopes next season. However, with EFL squad regulations limiting teams to 25 senior players, Wrexham will also need to offload some members of the current squad.
According to a squad audit by Sports Illustrated, several decisions will have to be made across the squad, starting with the goalkeeping department.
Goalkeeper Callum Burton, who is under contract until 2027, is expected to stay as a dependable third-choice option after impressing whenever called upon.
Meanwhile, Arthur Okonkwo’s future is less certain. Although the goalkeeper enjoyed a strong campaign, he lost his starting spot during the final four matches of the season. The report suggests Wrexham could consider selling him while he still holds strong market value if he is no longer viewed as the club’s first-choice keeper.
Veteran goalkeeper Danny Ward is also expected to remain after being brought back into the starting lineup at a crucial stage of the season, though Wrexham may still look to sign another goalkeeper to provide stronger competition.
Defender Lewis Brunt is viewed as a useful squad player, but with limited opportunities likely next season, a loan move could help the 25-year-old gain more regular playing time without forcing a permanent departure.
Liberato Cacace, who joined from Empoli FC, endured a difficult debut season in North Wales due to fitness struggles. However, there is optimism that the defender could feel like a new signing if he manages to stay healthy next season.
