West Bromwich Albion are on the verge of completing the permanent transfer of promising young striker Eseosa Sule, with Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren having reached an agreement with the Championship club over a deal.

The 20-year-old forward spent part of last season on loan in Scotland with Motherwell, where he was given an opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience. Although his spell at Fir Park was limited in terms of appearances, it has paved the way for another move north of the border, this time on a permanent basis.

Reports indicate that St. Mirren have successfully negotiated a transfer package with West Brom, including an agreed transfer fee and performance-related add-ons. Sule is now expected to complete the move by signing a three-year contract with the Paisley-based club, where he hopes to establish himself as a regular first-team player and continue his development.

Despite attracting interest from clubs in England, Scotland and even the Middle East, Sule has opted to continue his career in the Scottish Premiership. The move offers him the chance to play consistently at senior level, something that has proven difficult to achieve during his time at The Hawthorns.

Sule emerged as one of the brightest attacking talents in West Brom’s academy system. Throughout his progression from the Under-18s to the Under-21s, he consistently impressed with his goal-scoring ability and overall attacking contributions.

During his time with the club’s Under-21 side, he made 54 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing three assists. Before that, he featured 25 times for the Under-18s, finding the back of the net nine times while also registering one assist. Those numbers highlighted his potential and suggested he could eventually challenge for a place in the senior squad.

However, breaking into West Brom’s first team proved far more difficult. Sule managed just two senior appearances for the Baggies, while his loan spell at Motherwell also failed to provide the regular opportunities he had hoped for, resulting in only three first-team outings.

A permanent switch to St. Mirren is therefore viewed as the ideal next step in his career. Rather than continuing to wait for opportunities at West Brom, the striker will now have the chance to settle into a new environment where he can focus on earning regular playing time and proving that his impressive academy performances can be replicated at senior level.

The transfer also makes financial sense for West Brom. Sule remains under contract until 2027, meaning the club are able to secure a transfer fee now instead of risking losing him for little or no compensation further down the line. With his pathway to the first team becoming increasingly limited, this summer represented the most sensible time to complete a sale.

West Brom’s attacking options have expanded significantly during the current transfer window, making Sule’s departure even more understandable. The arrivals of Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan have strengthened James Morrison’s forward line, with both players expected to compete for important roles over the coming seasons.

In addition, Norwegian striker Aune Heggebo is already part of the squad, giving the Baggies another long-term option in attack. While uncertainty remains over the futures of Josh Maja and Karlan Grant following the expiry of their contracts, the club are still expected to strengthen further in the centre-forward position should either player leave permanently.

West Brom have also overseen several notable departures this summer. Goalkeeper Josh Griffiths has joined Stoke City, Jed Wallace has completed a free transfer to Bristol City, while Daryl Dike and Joe Wildsmith have both left the club following the expiration of their contracts.

Considering the increasing competition for places and the club’s long-term recruitment strategy, Sule’s exit appears to be a logical decision for all parties involved. The young striker now has an opportunity to restart his career with St. Mirren, while West Brom receive a transfer fee and continue reshaping their squad for the future. If you’d like, I can also rewrite this in a more engaging, newspaper-style format suitable for publication on a football news website.
