With the Rams set to begin their competitive campaign this weekend in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln City, the club remains active in the transfer market after Liam Thompson completed a permanent move to Mansfield Town. Derby are now expected to focus on adding quality in midfield and the wide attacking positions.

Derby have reportedly identified Huddersfield Town youngster Tom Iorpenda as a potential signing following his outstanding loan spell at Notts County last season.

According to reports, the 21-year-old has caught the attention of Derby’s recruitment team after helping Notts County secure promotion to League One. Iorpenda contributed three goals and seven assists during an impressive campaign, earning several individual honours, including the players’ player of the season, supporters’ player of the season and goal of the season awards.

Capable of operating both on the wing and in central attacking roles, Iorpenda fits the profile of player Derby are targeting as they aim to add creativity to their squad. Despite progressing through Brighton’s academy, he has yet to establish himself in Huddersfield’s first team.

Earlier this year, Iorpenda revealed that Lionel Messi has always been his footballing inspiration, saying he enjoys expressing himself with freedom on the pitch but hopes to become more consistent in front of goal.

Derby face rivals in David Ozoh pursuit

Derby’s efforts to re-sign Crystal Palace midfielder David Ozoh could become increasingly difficult, with interest reportedly growing from clubs across England and Europe.

The 21-year-old is entering the final year of his Palace contract, and the Premier League club are believed to favour a permanent transfer rather than another loan spell. John Eustace has openly admitted that Ozoh would be an excellent addition after the midfielder impressed during his time at Pride Park.

Reports suggest Bundesliga side FC Köln, French club Marseille and newly promoted Premier League outfit Hull City are all monitoring the situation. However, Ozoh is believed to be keen on returning to Derby, where he has enjoyed two successful loan spells and remains a popular figure among supporters.

Eustace has already reunited with former loanees Sam Szmodics and Bobby Clark this summer and is also interested in bringing back Ben Brereton Díaz alongside Ozoh.

Finn Surman also on Derby’s radar

Derby have also been linked with New Zealand international Finn Surman as they continue searching for defensive reinforcements.

The centre-back is approaching the end of his contract with MLS club Portland Timbers after representing New Zealand at this summer’s World Cup. With uncertainty surrounding his future in the United States, Derby are reportedly among the clubs keeping a close watch on his situation.
