Despite Going One Man Down, Frank Lampard Still Believe They Were A Better Team Ahead

Despite the setback of Abankwah’s red card in the 44th minute, Coventry City FC powered through to claim an emphatic 3–1 victory over Watford at the Building Society Arena — a night that tested their resolve and character to the limit. Watford boss Frank Lampard, though visibly frustrated by the officiating and the circumstances surrounding the sending-off, remained gracious in defeat and proud of his team’s fighting spirit.

Lampard insisted that Watford were the better side for much of the game, dictating tempo and creating clear chances before the red card shifted the momentum. “The boys showed great attitude and heart,” he said. “Even with ten men, we tried to play our game. Credit to Coventry — they took their chances well, but I’m proud of my players for standing tall.”

Coventry, on the other hand, capitalized brilliantly on the numerical advantage, controlling possession and punishing Watford’s tired legs in the second half. Goals from Wright, O’Hare, and Simms sealed a memorable win that keeps their upward trajectory alive.

While Lampard’s men will rue missed opportunities, the performance showcased a blend of bravery and belief that suggests Watford remain a dangerous side, ready to bounce back stronger.
